Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) is the world's oldest Montessori organization, founded by Dr. Maria Montessori in 1929, and headquartered in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands. The Association is committed to maintaining the integrity of Dr. Montessori's life work and ensuring that her thoughts could carry on after her death. As a supervisor and organizer of curricula and teacher training, AMI not only promotes the communication and exchange of the Montessori schools and associations around the world, but also has the right to publish Montessori books, to produce and sell Montessori teaching materials, and to guide the planning of training curricula.

Mario Montessori, Maria Montessori’s son and personal assistant, continued to grow the Montessori movement after the death of Dr. Montessori, and was responsible for the work of guiding and coordinating the international Montessori associations worldwide and maintaining the integrity of Montessori education. AMI provides guidance for the Montessori schools and training courses around the world to ensure that Montessori's educational philosophy is faithfully realized.
